Superfood or Super Hype?

It seems like every week health gurus announce a new superfood: kale, quinoa, acai…you name it, and it has likely been touted as the next miracle snack. But are superfoods really, well, super? It depends. According to experts interviewed on the website, Healthline, a manufacturer might very well label its product as a superfood even if it doesn’t deserve the label. Many actual superfoods are well known and located in the produce section, such as leafy greens, avocados, and berries; these are all loaded with nutrients and antioxidants. A better strategy, therefore, is not necessarily to jump for the next magic bullet, but to consume a balanced diet with a variety of healthy options, whether they’re labeled as superfoods or not.
